My First Real Lessons — Price Action

After around a year of small wins and huge losses, I started going deeper into the basics.

I began learning timeframes and studying price action more seriously.

I learned about:

Support and resistance.

Trendlines.

Price movement.

Basic market structure.

Different ways of reading charts.

And I respect price action.

I still do.

Price action is a powerful concept.

But there was a problem.

I didn't understand the logic behind what I was drawing.

I knew how to draw a trendline.

But did I truly understand why that trendline mattered?

I knew what support and resistance looked like.

But did I understand exactly why one level was important and another level was useless?

Not really.

I was drawing lines because I had learned that traders draw lines.

I was marking levels because I had seen other traders mark levels.

I was trying to make the chart look understandable.

But the chart wasn't actually becoming understandable.

I was putting things on the chart without understanding the logic behind them.

And eventually I realized something very important:

I wasn't reading the market. I was drawing on the market.

That was a huge difference.

Today, I still believe price action works.

But I also believe that knowing a concept and understanding a concept are two completely different things.

You can know the name of support and resistance.

You can know what a trendline is.

You can know dozens of patterns.

But if you don't understand the logic behind price movement, you can still get lost on a real chart.

And I know this because I was that person.
